Dido ------------------------>

I begin this podcast with a reflection on the disease concept of alcoholism as Dr. Silkworth set forth in our book Alcoholics Anonymous.  When I first came into AA, I wasn't sure I was alcoholic because of my preconceived idea of what an alcoholic was didn't match with my self perception.  However, the big books description of an alcoholic fit me perfectly so I was able to admit I was alcoholic.

Our Alcohol and the Media segment focuses around this article.  Here, the media's presentation of Alateen is very confusing.  The article says that Alateen is for teens struggling with alcohol.  Actually, Alateen is for teens struggling with loved one who struggle with alcohol.  There is a big difference.  According to Alateen's website

Alateen's Purpose

Alateen is part of Al-Anon, which helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.
